Voluntary Service

What is voluntary service?

Voluntary service at Youth Europa isn’t just a placeholder on your resume – it’s an empowering, transformative experience that is a part of the European Solidarity Corps programme. This is your golden ticket to immerse yourself in a different culture, explore new horizons, and expand your understanding of the world around you. Our programme offers a unique platform for young enthusiasts to dive headfirst into something new, challenging and deeply rewarding. It’s an invitation to embark on a journey of self-discovery, growth, and purpose.

Through meaningful work with our organisation, you will find the opportunity to stretch yourself beyond your comfort zone. From organising community events to facilitating educational programmes, you will be in the frontline of making a tangible difference in the lives of young people. As a key player in our mission, you will not only contribute to our projects, but you will also be responsible for leading initiatives, fostering relationships, and advocating for change. This is your chance to develop a comprehensive set of skills – leadership, communication, project management, and more – that will serve you throughout your career.

What’s more, the European Solidarity Corps programme ensures that your basic necessities are taken care of.  All on-site costs, including trainings, accommodation, meals, and insurance, are fully covered. Moreover, transportation expenses to and from the project country are reimbursed in accordance with the project budget. This allows you to focus on your service and personal development without financial worry. But we offer so much more than just material support – at Youth Europa, you’re joining a vibrant, passionate community. You’ll be rubbing shoulders with like-minded individuals from diverse backgrounds, who will enrich your experience with their unique perspectives. Together, you’ll forge lifelong friendships, create unforgettable memories, and share in the joy and satisfaction of making a positive impact on society.

Equipped with all the essential work tools like computers, it also boasts a collection of board games and other resources to stimulate your innovative thinking and ensure a balance of work and play. Your role & Tasks

You will be working side by side with the rest of the organisation, with a personal mentor and a tutor by your side. You can expect a 35-hours work week, primarily from Monday to Friday. Together, we will embark on a diverse range of tasks that will provide you with valuable experiences and opportunities for growth.

Local community events

As a volunteer, one of your primary responsibilities will be organising and managing community events that cater to young individuals in the local area. From educational workshops and sports tournaments to art and culture festivals, you’ll plan, execute, and lead these events, ensuring their success. These activities serve dual purposes: promoting a sense of community among local youths while fostering skills, talents, and interests that can contribute to their personal development.

International projects

A key part of your role will be collaborating on international projects that further the aims of Youth Europa. This may include planning and executing exchange programs, setting up virtual conferences with international participants, or creating cross-cultural collaborations to share knowledge and best practices. These tasks will involve working closely with our partners in different countries and cultures, giving you a unique opportunity to enhance your international cooperation and project management skills.

Organisational development

In the third core task group, you’ll be deeply involved in learning the intricacies of how an NGO operates and even participate in shaping our strategies for youth work. You will work closely with our staff, learning the nuts and bolts of non-profit management, from budget planning to stakeholder engagement. Additionally, your fresh perspective will be highly valued in brainstorming sessions and strategy meetings, where you’ll have the opportunity to propose and implement new ideas for improving our youth programs. This hands-on experience will give you a unique insight into the operational aspects of an NGO, providing you with invaluable knowledge and skills for any future leadership role.

The livingspace

Nestled near the city center of Tartu, the volunteer accommodation is a modern two-bedroom apartment designed to offer you both comfort and convenience. This is more than a mere resting place; it’s your personal haven after a day’s work. You’ll also have the opportunity to live with one other volunteer, fostering a sense of unity and shared experiences. Each volunteer is provided with their own private room, offering a sanctuary where you can retreat and recharge, while the shared kitchen, bathroom, and hall encourage a sense of community. The apartment is well-equipped and thoughtfully designed, balancing contemporary aesthetics with functionality. The close proximity to the city center also ensures easy access to local attractions, cultural hotspots, and our workspace. Here at Youth Europa, we believe that your living space plays a significant role in your overall experience. That’s why we’ve put thought and care into providing an accommodation that’s not just convenient and comfortable, but a space you can genuinely call home during your service.
