Theory of Reason

19.07.21 – 28.07.21
Taevaskoja, Estonia

Event summary

We are constantly bombarded with information, it’s increasingly difficult to distinguish what is true and what is not. There is so much polarizing info around climate change, vaccines, healthy diet or pretty much any other topic that you can think of.  Much of that stems from not having the right tools to understand the flaws and limitations of our own mind. This makes it more difficult to interpret what we see/read online and reflect upon it. We end up in a dangerous situation where we are vulnerable to be lied to and can be misled to believe something that is simply not true. Thus we believe that critical thinking skills and self-reflection are important abilities for people to acquire. By acquiring such skills, we’re better suited to make the right decisions, make sense of what’s going on around us and understand the way different groups of people think.

This summer we are proud to open this year’s Erasmus+ program with our Youth Exchange „Theory of Reason“ that will be carried out in a natural resort in Taevaskoja, Estonia 19-28 of July. It will involve 32 participants, aged 18-30, from Spain, Slovakia, Sweden and Estonia. Together, we will unlock our potential to think critically and independently through several interactive workshops, group activities and debates. As a result, we are better able to understand our own limitations and the way people think.

In addition to the main topic this is a great opportunity to travel, make new friends and create international contacts, practice your language and communication skills, explore new cultures and places as well as have lots and lots of fun!  This summer is a great time to break from our daily routines, get closer to nature, learn together with like-minded people across Europe and simply have an amazing time!

This project has been funded with support from the European Commission Erasmus+ programme. This publication [communication] reflects the views only of the author, and the Commission cannot be held responsible for any use which may be made of the information contained therein.

Attention!
We want to ensure you that we are following all of the safety regulations & laws and do everything in our power in order to make this event as good as possible. The active COVID-19 cases have been in steady decline and continue to drop further. This means that international travel is possible and we are able to gather in Taevaskoja! We will offer full support to each person in order to find the most suitable travel options. Please contact us if you are uncertain or have questions.

What can you expect?

The Program

The Youth Exchange is usually a project written by the youth for the youth, in order to create an intercultural learning environment where young people from all over the Europe can meet and share their culture and experiences. During the event, you have many chances to contribute with your ideas and shape the program together with us. Our program starts with several fun activities to break the ice and get to know each other better. During the rest of the project, we will dive deeper into the topics of critical thinking and self-reflection. We will explore the notion of ‘knowledge’ via interactive activities and group discussions that help us understand our own mind’s limitations, the way we think as well as the complexity of knowledge itself. The workshops will be carried out by our more experienced participants, but everyone will be encouraged to help with the making of the workshops. And NO, you don’t have to have any previous experience, no one is going to make you carry out any activities if you don’t want to. Just get on along for the ride and enjoy it! And who knows, you might get inspired yourself!

The Networking

Through cooperation, you will get to know other like-minded people from different countries. Each international training Youth Exchange project is an amazing opportunity to gain new contacts, share experiences and make life-long friends.

The Unexpected

Well, we shouldn’t spoil everything, right? Each of our events is a little different because of the participants who join them. You will have the chance to contribute with your own ideas which can have a significant impact on this event. When dealing with critical thinking, each participant has something to contribute to the others in order to expand our own worldview, learn to work in a team and become more understanding of other cultures and of the wider world.

Social program

In our organisation, it’s become a tradition that each national group will take turns presenting different aspects of their culture during the national evenings. In perspective of helping this project to be as memorable as possible, take this opportunity to prepare a unique and extraordinary presentation and think of it as a good way to represent your cultural background for the rest of the participants. Don’t be afraid to be creative! It’s highly recommended to bring some typical food, snacks or drinks for others to taste during the intercultural evening.
