Event summary

Computer systems and networks, Cyber security, database systems, human computer interaction, vision and graphics, numerical analysis, programming languages, software engineering, bioinformatics… the number of fields of new technologies is growing and becoming more specialised every day; indeed, the header image of this application has been generated with an AI tool.

It is easy to fall behind and not keep up with new changes. That’s why the aim of this series of Youth Europa projects is to provide participants with the latest knowledge and tools in new technologies – in this case, cybersecurity. During this training course, we will learn about cybersecurity from experienced security experts, discuss the hottest topics and create tools and knowledge that will be useful for other organisations.

More and more youth work is taking place online but security is usually kept on the backburner. Online security is often talked about on very basic level but it’s also needed to have more people with more in-depth knowledge of the subject. One of the goals of this project is to help participants to raise awareness about dangers in the virtual world.

Not only that, but this project can be the entry point to the world of cybersecurity, the knowledge gained and the contacts made during the activity can be the first steps to find a job in the world of IT security.

The project will bring together 17 people from Estonia, Greece and Spain; however, if you are a person from a neighbouring country and you are highly motivated, apply to this project and we will see how you can join. This will help us create a unique non-formal learning environment where you can comfortably share thoughts and ideas with other like-minded people. In addition to all of the learning activities, there will be other elements in the program that will help you make new friends and create memories for life. Come, take a leap of faith and experience something new. Many of the skills and contacts that are acquired during this event will be useful in other aspects of your life!

Please note that this is not a Youth Exchange but a Training Course. Training courses are more serious programs that are meant to improve the competencies of youth workers and people with strong interest in the topic. Despite the more serious nature of the event, it will still be a fun and ideal opportunity to meet new people.

Where you'll be staying

Venue & Location

The accommodation will take place in La Zubia (Granada), Spain. In the metropolitan area of the city of the Alhambra, we find this spectacular Villa full of light and space, with incredible views of the city of Granada and its fertile plain, next to the natural park of Sierra Nevada. The venue is located in a quiet area close to the mountains and the city of Granada. The accommodation is a large modern villa with all the necessary amenities. Because the end of the year is cold in Granada, the house is prepared with a heating system.

Our participants will be accommodated in comfortable renovated rooms with double or triple rooms.
The venue includes:

7 rooms and 7 bathrooms.
Dining area.
Garden and outdoor areas.
Reliable internet connection.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served at the same location every day and we are also providing vegetarian options.

The accommodation is near to various shops, cafeterias, markets, and natural parks.

What can you expect?

Th3 Pr0gr4m

We do not expect participants to be computer experts, but we do expect people with an interest in the world of computers, new technologies and cyber security. Ideally, if you would like to take part in this project, we expect you to be able to work properly with a computer. If you are selected to participate in this project, we will send you various free courses and articles in order to prepare you fully for the experience (don’t worry, they will be few and enjoyable tools and articles that will allow you to familiarise yourself with the various activities that will take place during the project in Granada). We will start with ice-breaking, getting to know each other and gradually moving deeper into the topic of this project. The workshops are facilitated by experienced trainers with experience in the cyber security sector.

The Networking

Through cooperation, you will get to know other like-minded people from different countries. Each international training course is an amazing opportunity to gain new contacts, share experiences and make life-long friends. Please note that several workshops will be given by people working today in various positions in the cyber security world; we will organise spaces where you will be able to ask them any questions you may have.

The Unexpected

Well, we shouldn’t spoil everything, right? Each of our events is a little different because of the participants who join them. You will have the chance to contribute with your own ideas which can have a significant impact on this event.

Social program

In our organisation, it’s become a tradition that each national group will take turns presenting different aspects of their culture during the national evenings. In perspective of helping this project to be as memorable as possible, take this opportunity to prepare a unique and extraordinary presentation and think of it as a good way to represent your cultural background for the rest of the participants. Don’t be afraid to be creative! It’s highly recommended to bring some typical food, snacks or drinks for others to taste during the intercultural evening.

How to get to the event?

Travel

You must arrive before late evening on 28.11 to the city of Granada and have to participate in the full duration of the event. You can get to Granada by flying to Seville or Malaga and then taking a train or a bus to Granada. From there we will pick you up and drive you to the venue. We will provide more travelling information once you have been selected to join the project. If you need more information, please contact us for more details. We will cover your travel cost up to a certain limit. You will receive your reimbursement after you have provided us with all the documents within a month after the event. If you’re economical, it’s possible to get your full travel expenses covered!

Selected participants need to contact the organiser and send their travel info before buying the tickets. It is really important not to buy anything before receiving the green light from us. We will, of course, assist you in every way possible!

The travel reimbursement limit depends on the travel distance. The upper limit per country is:

Spain (9-99km): 50€
Greece (2000-2999km): 360€
Estonia (3000-3999km): 530€

Our extensive experience makes us more flexible and helps us make meaningful adjustments to the program. This means that if something doesn’t fit or seems boring, we will always have a plan B and C.

As a participant of this event, you will receive YouthPass – a certificate of non-formal education recognized all across Europe that allows you to describe what you have done and learned. On top of that, it can be a great way to stand out at a job interview or when applying to a university, not to mention the part where you get to show off to your friends:)

How the heck is this so cheap?

This project is supported by Erasmus+ program. This enables us to keep the participation fee very low and even remove it for people who are in financial difficulties. We know it sounds too good to be true, feel free to check out the reviews:)

Not at all. We try to focus on non-formal learning methods. This means that all activities are interactive and you will usually work in groups.

What are the participation requirements?

Everyone who comes from the eligible countries and is 18 to 30 years old is welcome to apply. There are no prerequisites, we actually welcome people who have no prior experience at all. Also, this event is not political. We don’t care if you hold conservative or more liberal views. Just be friendly and cooperative, we’re all here to learn, make friends & have fun!

How do I sign up?

How are participants selected?

The participants are selected based on their motivation and interest in the topic. There is no catch, you just need to be sincere and honest in your application. Also, if you’re not selected in this project, it’s more likely that you get selected for the next ones.

How do I buy the tickets and plan my trip?

Questions such as this one will be answered by the organisers or your group leader. Don’t worry, we will help you find the best possible option!

What kind of travel cost will be covered?

We will cover your trip to and from the project destination. There are some limits that apply, this is based on your travel distance. These limits are mentioned in the information above. If you buy the tickets early enough, it’s common to get your travel 100% covered.

How & When do I get my travel reimbursement?

After the event, all participants will fill the reimbursement form where you will be asked to upload the travel cost documents (itinerary, boarding passes, invoices etc.). The reimbursement process usually takes between 1-2 months. Remember that we will help you on every step of the way.

Do I have to speak in front of a group or lead workshops?

Nope. You will not be forced to do anything that you’re not comfortable with. But it’s definitely a great place to step our of your comfort zone. This is going to be a journey in your personal development:)
